YaYa DaCosta from ANTM claims biggest role yet

Season three of America’s Next Top Model premiered in 2004 which makes it 10 whole years since the antics of Miss Eva the Diva and her glorious transformation from “tomboy” to Top Model rose her to superstardom, earning her numerous magazine covers and spreads, acting roles on shows like “The Game” and Tyler Perry’s “House of Pain” and even movies. Moral of the story though, is Eva Pigford wasn’t the only one from ANTM Cycle 3 who went on to become stars. 925212-eva_americas_next_top_model_season_3_eva_spider_tarantula

Toccara Jones went on to have commercial and television success, even hosting her own “Flavor of Love” style dating show. But runner up to Pigford was YaYa Decosta, a chocolate beauty from New York with brains and the top model look.

Decosta went on to star in movies like “Take the Lead” and most recent “The Butler” to even having roles in “Ugly Betty” and “All My Children” on television.

But now, YaYa is on to one of her biggest roles yet: Playing legend Whitney Houston.

Lifetime announced that DeCosta was selected for the role of Houston in an upcoming biopic about her life. DeCosta won the role over other “rumored” suitors for the role, including Megan Good and Ashanti. Yaya2

The film is set to release as a Lifetime movie network film in 2015 and will be directed by Houston’s close friend Angela Bassett. YaYa-DaCosta-Essence-Magazine-Photo-Shoot-2

Chris Brown finally a FREE man; parties on first day out

After being in jail since March, 25-year old singer Chris Brown was released from prison just after midnight on Monday from a L.A. county jail. Brown, who was locked up in March after pleading guilty to violating his probation, was slated to serve 365 days in jail however was let go early due to good behavior and his participation in the rehab program that subsequently locked him up in the first place.

Brown was quick to go on record to say “I’m never, ever going back to jail again” in one of his first public statements after being released.

Long time side-chick (even though she claims to be a girlfriend) Karrueche Tran was so excited to have “her man” back, that she threw him a surprise party on Thursday in Beverly Hills.

With Brown on probation still and having no desire to go to jail, the party was a “weed-free” zone and Brown claimed to not drink anything at the party also. Although the record reports that some of Brown’s guests were most certainly (turnt).

Long time friends of Breezy were in the building including Young Money rapper Tyga and G.O.O.D. music artist Big Sean.

Let’s hope that for his sake, Breezy really is done with drugs and alcohol because his future hangs in the balance.

Of course, Chris Brown’s ex girlfriend Rihanna was not in attendance however she has been spending a lot of time in Los Angeles lately, being spotted at a handful of L.A. Clippers playoff games in May.

Richard Sherman wins Madden ’15 Cover Vote

Once again, the people at EA Sports gave the fans a chance to pick who they wanted to see grace the cover of Madden 2015. Just a year after the old school vs new school vote rocked the nation and former Lions running back Barry Sanders was selected over current Lion Calvin Johnson to grace the cover, 16 players got the chance to be in running this year.

The winner this year: None other than big mouth cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks Richard Sherman.

Sherman beat out Cam Newton in the final round of voting by an outstanding 79,396 votes, essentially pulling in 12% more votes than Newton. A total of 661,412 votes were cast in the final round, with Sherman receiving 56% of the votes (370,390) while Panthers quarterback Cam Newton drew in 44% of votes (291,021), making it his third year in a row to miss the cover.

Other players who made the Top 16 but did not make the final cut include Redskins running back Alfred Morris, Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green. Check out all 16 players below.

While I personally despise the fact that Sherman gets the honor of being on the cover of my hands down favorite video game franchise, I am excited to know that the 15 year + Madden Curse has yet to fail thus far. It gives me hope that my Falcons will be the top of the NFC again.

Sorry Cam, maybe next year you can have you shot at history.
